Kauai, 1993. Age 18. It was late at night when I landed from California, and rain was coming down in a torrential, impossible-to-see kind of way. I was 18 years old, too young to rent a car, so I had to have someone else rent it for me. When I finally got in and read the directions on my paper map, I saw that after 30 miles of winding, unlit roads, I was supposed to find the address written on a pine tree. Okay, the entire island is covered in pine trees. There is even a beach called Pine Trees! Read the entire article @cntraveler - link in bio! I’m so honored to write for one of my favorite magazines!!
He is leading us all in the right direction and doing so many wonderful things to support first responders. To help, I’m looking to him and shining a light... check out his page for ways that we can all get involved! He had a great suggestion to send meals to the healthcare specialists who are working around the clock right now! Go to his page for the info! He’s also working with @youtube to support WHO Coronavirus Response - for every dollar you donate, You Tube matches with $2! (Link in bio for donation info) Also... you must watch this video he made! DINNER WITH THE GAFFIGANS on @cbssundaymorning for comedic relief!
My @flowerbeauty go-to right now is our Day Glow Highlighting Glaze. It’s a purse-friendly, on-the-go essential that contours, highlights and bronzes! I love wearing this formula year-round, but especially in the winter for a hint of bronzy color on my cheekbones, forehead, around the nose, on my brow bone and along my jaw line. I’ve been taking it with me everywhere! #flowerbeauty AVAILABLE NOW @ultabeauty (link in bio)
#beautyjunkieweek @flowerbeauty and the #flowerbeauty team that I build all of this with side by side. Bringing our best new products to you! This is just one of them. A beautiful flattering lip to all. #Berrymore
I have been in a makeup chair my entire life and truly love learning and sharing beauty tips, products, ingredients... and stories! BUT This week, I’ll be sharing my beauty stories as well as discoveries with you because I watched this short film and thought it was the perfect start to #BeautyJunkieWeek @hairlovemovie is an Oscar®-winning animated short film from Matthew A. Cherry that tells the heartfelt story of an African American father learning to do his daughter’s hair for the first time. This message was so touching and emotional to me as a mother raising two daughters. I had heard about it on the @dailyshow when the filmmaker was on and then my Olive saw it on YouTube and said she had heard about it at school!!! So, we sat down to watch it as a family. I want them to be constantly reminded that beauty starts from within... confidence, love and how you treat others. I thought this film was truly BEAUTIFUL. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. Spoiler alert... I cried watching it, clutching my girls. As we enter International Women’s Month, I am also reminded of how important it is to try and understand other women while supporting them on their journeys... it is up to all of us to raise each other up! We are already beautiful, NOW LET’S PLAY!

But, as a proud worker bee with things we are creating (that I really want share so that others can benefit for what we made for them!) The great part is, you don’t even need a prescription! Anyone can wear them! I go up and I go down. The rollercoaster of my body is a challenging, but beautiful ride. I made two kids. The single most important purpose for me being on this planet is for them! It is a true miracle I was able to have these two girls. So whatever the aftermath on my body, well bring it on! That said, there have been times i have stood in my closet and just cried. Hated getting dressed. Didn’t feel good! It takes so much for me to look decent. I have to eat just right and Work my ass off! I cannot fight the fact that I have the propensity to be the Pillsbury dough boy! (Now all I can think about is crescent rolls) So DON’T Be fooled by what you see when people are thin right after baby. Don’t compare yourself to the magazines and the red carpets. If I looked decent on anything I have done since I had my two kids, I have clawed my way there. You can too! However, it is hard to sustain and can take a lot of the joy out of life with food. But not anymore. NOW I have found that elusive B called BALANCE. 45! It only took 45 years to find myself. Right where I am supposed to be. And it’s not perfect. But it’s me. And most importantly, I want to share it with you. Ps this is the power of @marniealton, she’s the one who helped me be @santaclaritadiet ready! #WELLNESSWEEK
#WELLNESSWEEK Guess what?! You too can work out with my girl @marniealton @mbodybymarniealton Come check her out in NYC or find her in Los Angeles. Personally, I think she should take over the world. If you can get the chance to experience her class, don’t miss out! I’m adding a link in my insta story to sign up!
#WELLNESSWEEK @marniealton @mbodybymarniealton This woman is my long time teacher and dear important friend. She has helped me. Healed me. Encouraged me to keep going when I felt like being strong was an insurmountable task. We have known each other for about 15 years and when I told her I wanted to transform my body for #SANTACLARITADIET she helped me. Every spring, when I would start training to become #SHEILAHAMMOND Marnie was the one who got me there. I lost 20 pounds and trained like a mother. She also is the most amazing person. She is poetry in a human being. The best heart. Her priorities are in the right place. She is humorous and so so so knowledgeable about our bodies. I love her. Inside and out. Her classes are always booked up and we all love to run to her for her spirit and leadership for all things healthy. We hope the people in the wellness world are actually healthy in their hearts and minds. It’s not all about being terminators! It’s about how to find yourself. How to be your best self. But we need guidance and we hope our teachers are smart and wise and sane! Marnie is one of the greats. Period. And if your looking for a life change or to find your consistent tribe, she is where I found mine.
#WELLNESSWEEK This is BECKY and this is @theaktstudios and we have been doing this fun full body workout together for years It’s based on their TONE class which really incorporates so many things in one hour Bands Cardio Weights Abs and stretching I love this class and here is a glimpse of our shenanigans ps I’m sorry if this shaky video makes you get dizzy
#WELLNESSWEEK After a big week of rad food, how do we balance? Oh that elusive woman named “balance” and how she evades us sometimes. But! To harness wellness, I want to promote it in several forms. What is wellness? What is our genetics? What is our lifestyle and priorities? I kick it off talking to my daughter Frankie and I am keeping very real with her! As I will with you all week long! Let the games begin! And let’s celebrate our challenges as well as our triumphs. PELVIC FLOOR PHYSICAL THERAPY IS WHAT I HAD TO ENGAGE IN TO JUMP START MY NEW LIFE IN THE WELLNESS SPACE. @manhattanphysiogroup and #Emsculpt @btlaesthetics helped me tremendously! But it all takes work. Nothing comes easy. But the way we work (and without injury so we can keep going) the way we approach health and wellness is also different for everyone. This is a week in my life! I hope you enjoy.
#FOODIEWEEK continues with a fun episode of #BeatBobbyFlay airing tonight at 10PM! I’m joining @mvoltaggio for “Chocolate Covered Clash” and I hope you will tune in with me @foodnetwork to watch fantastic pastry chefs DaVee Harned and Miriam Rieder Taylor take on @bobbyflay I love watching this show and it was so much fun to be a part of this episode!!
#FOODSPIRATION #COOKINGANDRESEARCH I love to read and research just as much as I love to eat! Food is also design... the plated dish is a piece of art! Here are some #foodspiration photos I’ve saved recently (mostly pasta!🍝 ) and the design outlets I find inspiration from... people and places too! I love to walk through a farmer’s market and ask questions. Where do you find food inspiration and recipes?? Tag in comments! I’m curious #FOODIEWEEK
#TGIM #FOODIEWEEK #COOKINGANDRESEARCH #ILOVEFOOD ❤️ What can I say?! I simply cannot resist a great cookbook and spend countless hours researching recipes, studying cultural culinary traditions and taking notes from my favorite chefs. Every morning, I select recipes from my library of cookbooks and plan a menu for the day with Pilar of @kickshawcookery We compare research and inspiration, often substituting ingredients to make our meals just a bit healthier! One of my main goals in life is to figure out how to eat exotic food or even just plain old classics, but we fight to put a twist on them. And our twist is how to make it healthy and lean but inventive. How can we do spaghetti carbonara into a dairy free carb free dish? Well i can promise you it’s not with zoodles! We plan balanced meals for nights in with my daughters, but also family style lunches for 20! I frequently hold @flowerbydrew @flowerbeauty business meetings over at my place, and explore different cuisines at every sitting. We truly travel the world through taste!! This week, I’ll be sharing my foodie obsessions ... cookbooks, scenes from my kitchen, recipes, #cookingandresearch as well as kitchen design that inspires me and the tools and appliances that bring it all to life. #souptonuts literally After all, the kitchen is the center of my home. A gathering place for homework, catching up and laughter! Always laughter!! Every day, my favorite moments are spent around the kitchen island... (which is a 3 foot by 1 and half foot slab of wood from the 90’s that is the heart of our home) Food brings us together, nourishes our body and no matter how busy the day is, there is nothing better than taking a moment to share a meal with those you love. (Or shove its in late night by yourself while the kids sleep) #FOODIEWEEK IS ON!!!!! Join me!!
2003 welcomes 2020 (back story on this moment! It was the NYC premier of Charlie’s Angels 2 and I had hired an old school bus with Christmas lights and hanging rubber chickens to take us there! And I was like “trust me! This is going to be so fun to show up in! And then it broke down! Literally “smoking from the hood” broke. And so we walked the rest of the way. But not before I grabbed the champers and said “well this is good too” and off to our fun evening we went. And we’re all still peas in a pod.)
I’m on the road for the holidays. And making these playlists I was moved at how fast a decade goes by I call it #A2020/B2020 but It is a reflection. Some songs shocked me when I would go to confirm a year the song came out, and something that seemed so recent didn’t even make the cut of time-bookends. other songs I could have sworn came out when the dinosaurs did, and they were only three years old! Time plays funny tricks on us. But I do know this, the decades move faster and faster as you get older. Remember Y2K and how crazy that was supposed to be?! And it was a just a long breath before a 20 year wild ride with highs and lows no one could have predicted. So listen to songs that were popular for a reason. Songs that slipped through the cracks. Songs that will make us move our hips and lips! LINK IN BIO FOR A2020/B2020 playlists on @spotify
Just finished. On Christmas Day. This is the most beautiful book. This is a great day for books. One Christmas Day i read Reiner Maria Rilke Letters to a young poet. I am self educated. I learned through reading hundreds and thousands of books. And carrying my dictionary everywhere I went. (Grammer not so much thank you EE Cummings) I studied. Books have been my entire world for my almost entire life. And since i became a mom, I did not have the time or the bandwidth to read the way I used to. I now still read, but my pace is different. And this book I just put down, is a love letter to a mother. I am overwhelmed by how important stories are. They are what connects us. Grab a book today and read one page. Read a whole book! (My superpower if I got one would be to speed read! And get locked in a library) so here’s to happy everyone everywhere! Share your stories today! By reading. Writing. Listening. Or telling yours.
